Study into oversight of algorithmic applications

This position paper is a starting point from which the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) wishes to develop its oversight of algorithmic applications further. It offers general guidance for investigations into violations in which algorithmic applications play a role.

In this position paper, ACM explains what algorithmic applications are, and in what situations they are relevant to ACM. ACM also explains how it can investigate algorithmic applications in practice, and it discusses several challenges it may encounter in real-life investigations.

With this publication, ACM wishes to contribute to the national and international debate on the use of AI (artificial intelligence) by businesses, and on oversight thereof by regulators.
