Final conditional penalty imposed on mobile operators in connection with mobile phone number portability

OPTA has imposed a final conditional penalty on all mobile telecommunication service providers. By doing so, OPTA is seeking to ensure that the process of switching from one provider to another while retaining one’s telephone number (number portability) occurs more smoothly in the future. This order will come into effect on 1 February 2000.
