Letter from national competition authorities on the Siemens – Alstom merger
In a joint letter to the European Commission the competition authorities of Belgium, The Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom have expressed their concerns about the proposed merger of the mobility business of Siemens AG with Alstom SA.
The four national authorities share the concerns raised by the European Commission. The overall loss of competition brought about by the merger would be both widespread and very significant. The remedies ultimately offered by the Parties fall far short of what would be required to address all competition concerns.
