Energy supplier Robin Energie’s fine has been lowered

The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) has imposed a fine of 75,000 euros on energy supplier Robin Energie. ACM had already imposed the fine prior to Robin Energie’s bankruptcy, and had lowered the fine (still outstanding) from 250,000 euros to 75,000 euros because of Robin Energie’s financial situation. ACM will only collect the fine if it does not come at the expense of other creditors such as consumers.

Robin Energie had initially been fined for sending final bills too late to consumers who wanted to switch energy suppliers. This is supposed to happen within six weeks so that consumers know what their energy costs are, and are able to make comparisons. In 2017, Robin Energie sent 80% of the final bills too late, and in 37% of all cases only after 12 weeks.
