InSight 2014

In InSight, the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) covers different social trends that are important to its oversight work such as the trend of reducing red tape, where the government stimulates companies to make arrangements about public interests among themselves. Examples include the promotion of sustainable energy or animal-friendly production methods. ACM is in favor of these trends, but, at the same time, notes that, as the market authority, it has to assess such initiatives for anticompetitive risks. If other public interests must outweigh the interest of competition, arrangements should then be laid down in regulation and legislation.

Other topics in InSight are national and European discussions on telecommunication, energy and transport. ACM explains how, in its opinion, several problems in the markets should be dealt with.
